A well-established San Diego organization is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager for an immediate temporary assignment. This is a hands-on role responsible for managing payroll operations, ensuring compliance, supporting year-end payroll activities, and serving as the internal subject matter expert for Dayforce.
This position requires someone who can step in quickly, work independently, and maintain accurate payroll processing within a high-volume environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing for approximately 850 employees
- Process semi-monthly payroll cycles accurately and on time
- Audit payroll records and identify discrepancies
- Prepare year-end payroll tax reconciliations
- Manage W-2 processing and required payroll adjustments
- Ensure compliance with California Wage & Hour laws
- Research and resolve payroll-related issues
- Generate payroll reports and provide data analysis as needed
- Partner with HR and leadership on payroll-related matters
- Serve as the Dayforce subject matter expert for payroll functions
- Support payroll year-end activities and compliance requirements
Required Qualifications
- Direct hands-on Dayforce experience
- 5+ years of payroll experience
- Experience managing full-cycle payroll processing
- Strong payroll tax knowledge
- Experience with payroll audits and reconciliations
- W-2 processing experience
- Strong understanding of California Wage & Hour regulations
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
- HRIS reporting experience
- Benefits administration exposure
- Experience supporting large employee populations
- Experience with payroll analytics and reporting
